Meditation Technique

Relaxation & Meditation

When tension is not there, there is relaxation in your being, in your every fibre, cell, nerve or muscle. Your whole body is relaxed. Your mind becomes calm. Your whole being is calm & relaxed. This relaxation is the first aspect and beginning of meditation. (Osho).

For meditation, relax body & mind

As there is always some drowsiness when you get up from bed, it is desirable to do some Asanas and a little Pranayama for five minutes just to drive off this drowsiness and to make you fit for meditation. The mind gets one-pointed after the practice of Pranayama. Pranayama, though it concerns with the breath, gives good exercise for various internal organs and the whole body.

After working for long hours, treat your tired mind with some relaxation. Emotional tension is often carried as physical strain in your neck, shoulders and back. A massage or back rub is great; you can also try these easy to follow excercises. Put on a nice soothing music (preferably Indian light classical instrumental music) and prepare to unwind. Sit comfortably; this may take few minutes, so find a good position Breathe slowly and deeply.

To start with, let us have a full faith, love, devotion, surrender and humility to our favourite object or deity or 'Ishta Deva' (or subject) of our meditation. So we are starting from this milestone.

Practice ‘Superconscious Meditation’

• Meditate in a quiet environment early in the morning or whenever you prefer to do it. Treat it as an appointment with God.

• Sit upright. Breathe deeply two or three times. Be calm, feel calm and relax.

• Put your attention on the front and upper region of your brain or may be on the spot between the eyes. Now again take adeep breath and hum ‘Oooooooooooommmmmm’ or say any short prayer, you love.

• Wait, watch and observe your breath for a while till you feel your whole body being is fully relaxed and your mind is focused on the spot of meditation. Now mentally chant your mantra. Your Guru either bestows this mantra on you. Or you pick up any you like and be persistent with that.

• If your attention wanders, let thoughts come and let go. Whenever there is a gap between thoughts, keep mentally repeating your mantra. Do it with commitment, conviction and confidence and also with faith and fondness. Never fear or despair and never give up. You may believe that it is the nature of the mind to wander, but you have the potential power to control it. You will get the stillness of thoughts with practice, patience and perseverance.

• After the stillness of thougts, you are in the silence of Superconsciousness state. Abide in it for a while.

• Surrender to Him (either the form of God or mantra or breath or point of concentration) on whom you are meditating. The whole process will appear automatic, after good daily practice and you will come out of it easily to do your worldly karmas, rightly and efficiently.

• Practice 20-30 minutes once or twice a day. Sit longer if you choose to do so.
