Pop-Gem Mantras
Simple pop Beej-Mahavakyas & Healing Mantras
START:
There are many mantras, because there are many different kinds
of people. There is a particular sound or vibration to which your
spiritual body will best respond. However it may be remembered
that Mantras are not so different as they may appear. 'Hari Om',
a Mantra to evoke Lord Krishna, is not so different from 'Om Namah
Sivaya'. Both lead to an understanding of the greater oneness
but by different approaches. Each leading to God relationship
and God realization.
Pick a mantra, which seems, to you, to apply. Offer a prayer to
God, in whatever way you relate to God. Ask for God's blessing
in accomplishing your objective in doing this spiritual discipline.
Once you have decided to undertake the discipline and offered
your prayers, then pick a place where you will say your mantra
for a certain number of times each day. If possible, obtain a
rosary of some kind and do your mantras in some multiple of 108.
If getting a rosary is not possible, then decide on a certain
amount of time you will spend each day saying your mantra. It
can be five minutes, ten minutes, twenty minutes or even an hour.
For your first experience, any time up to twenty minutes is advisable.

OM: (Beej MANTRA)
• Lord Krishna says, " I am the sacred,' OM' that needs
to be known (Gita 9.17)
• Among all forms of speech, I am the one-lettered OM (Gita
1o.25)
• OM is the vibratory aspect of God.
• OM: the vibrations of the power of supreme consciousness
that manifests as the field of primordial nature from which the
universe is emanated and sustained.
• . OM is the pranavmantra. Mundakopanishad compares OM
to a dhanush or bow and the jivatma, the individual soul, to an
arrow, the target being Brahman, the supreme. Just as the arrow
speeds unerringly towards the target, so must the jivatma wing
its unfaltering way to the paramatma or Para Brahman.
• The greatest of all Beeja-Aksharas is OM or Pranava,
for it is the symbol of Para-Brahma or the Parmatma Himself. OM
contains within itself all the other Beeja-Aksharas. OM is the
root of all sounds and letters. There is no mantra superior to
or greater than OM. In the correct pronunciation of OM the sound
proceeds from the naval, with a deep and harmonious vibration,
and gradually manifests itself by stages at the upper part of
the nostrils where the Anusvara or the chanderbindu is sounded.
OM consists of three letters: 'A', 'U', 'M'. It signifies the
three periods of time, the three states of consciousness, and
the entire existence. 'A' is the waking state. 'U' is the dreaming
state or Hiranyagarbha. 'M' is the sleeping state or Isvara.
• The japa of 'Om' has a tremendous influence on the mind.
The vibrations set up by this word are extremely powerful.(Swami
Sivananda)
• As soon as you sit for meditation, chant Om loudly 3
or 6 or 12 times. This will drive away all worldly thoughts from
the mind and then take to mental repetition of Om.
GAYATRI MANTRA
OM BHUHU BHUVAH SUVAH-TAT SAVITUR VARENAYAM
BHARGO DEVASYA DHIMAHI-DHIYO YO NAHA PRACHODAYAT
OM SHANTI SHANTI SHANTI
OM: we meditate upon the glorious splendour of the Vivifier divine.
May He Himself illumine our intellects. OM
• Vyahritis are mystic words uttered by every upaska in
performing sandhya. Vyahritis mean words- words uttered by Brahma
during creation. Creation involves movement, which in turn produces
sound. Vyahritis are sound symbols of creation. In other words,
vyahritis are creation reduced to words. There are seven vyahritis,
which express the Viswam. Amongst the seven, the first three,'Bhuhu','Bhuvah',
and 'Suvah' are called 'Mahavyahritis'which within themselves,
by some universal law have approximated the whole of cosmos or
'viswam'. So this trinty alone is often used in the place of the
seven for convenience and compression.
• For control & illumination of mind/intellecy, everyone
must chant Gayatri. It is the one mantra, that all should repeatedly
chant. We think that,'Bhur','Bhuvah','Suvah' are three different
worlds. It is mistake to think so. They are within you. They are
three aspects of Gayatri. The Gayatri deals with sense control.
The body has senses of perception and action. This first aspect
of Gayatri is called," materialisation or Gayatri."
• Daily repetation of Gayathri will develop the mind to
the buddic level and confer the wisdom, discrimnation and detachment
necessary to realise one's true reality.
• Gayatri mantra, on the longest day (21st june) will have
even greater facility to invoke the power and radiance of the
Sun. Gayatri mantra invokes the power of the Sun to energize all
earthly life. It is a universal prayer to life's source, the Sun,
to"illuminate our intellects, destroy our sins and guide
us in the right direction." Great ascetics, saints, thinkers
and philosophers have endorsed Gayatri mantra. The great western
thinker Arthur Koestler had once said that Gayatri mantra has
the power of a thousand atomic bombs!
HARI OM (Name of Krishna)
• 'Hari Om' is the healing Mantra. Hari is a name for Vishnu,
the preserving aspect of the divine. Therefore it is a healing
aspect of Lord Krishna. This Mantra calls on Lord Krishna to preserve
the human body and the mind in the best state of health for the
purpose of Self-Realization. This Mantra is most powerful between
mid-night and three o' clock in the morning. At this time, worldly
vibrations are calm and mental activity is less. This is the time
at which you are most likely to have a spiritual experience. While
chanting, you can go over from one name to another in order to
give greater variety to chanting. Hari Om is effective in efforts
to make the mind single-pointed.
Ganesha: Om Gum Ganapatayei Namaha
Rough Translation: 'Om and salutations to the remover of obstacles
for which Gum is the seed.' For seen or unseen obstacles, which
seem to be standing in the way of your progress or achievement,
either specifically or generally, this mantra has proved invaluable.
It has been used it with great success not only in India, but
in the West, many people have had success in turning things around
in their life by using this mantra.
Maha- Mrityunjaya Mantra:
OM TRYAMBAKAM YAJAAMAHE SUGANDHIMPUSHTIVARDHANAM
URVAARUKAMIVA BANDHANAAN MRITYORMUKSHIYA MA AMRITAAT.
"We bow to that three-eyed Lord (Siva), who is full of sweet
fragrance, who nourishes the human beings (always). May He free
me from the bondage of samsara and death, just as a ripe cucumberr
fruit is separated from the stalk, and may I be fixed in immortality."
-You have to recite the MM mantra with the concentrated mind just
once in the morning, and it will save you from all possible mishaps.
-This is a life giving Mantra. It will remove motor/air, water/fire
accidents, incurable diseases and calamitirs, bestows long Life
and immortality. It has a great curative effect. Diseases pronounced
incurable by doctors are cured by this Mantra. It is weapon against
all diseases, when chanted with sincerity, faith and devotion.
It bestows health, wealth, peace, prosperity, satisfaction and
long life. It is a Moksha-Mantra too. It is Lord Siva's Mantra.
Lakshmi: Om Shrim Mahalakshmiyei Swaha
Rough Translation: 'Om and salutations to that feminine energy
which bestows all manner of wealth, and for which Shrim is the
seed'
This mantra has not only been used for the purpose of attracting
prosperity, but also for drawing in proper friends, clearing up
family misunderstandings and quarrels, and smoothing some health
problems. As we all know, there are many different kinds of wealth.
As you use this mantra, focus on the kind of wealth you wish to
manifest in your life.
Durga: Om Dum Durgayei Namaha
Rough Translation: 'Om and Salutations to that feminine energy
which protects from all manner of negative influences, and for
which Dum is the seed.'
Durga is the Divine Protectress. Typically shown riding a lion
or a tiger, Durga has a hundred arms, each with a different weapon
of destruction. Yet her face is exquisitely beautiful to behold.
The interpretation is that to the pious and the sincere seeker
after truth, her sight can produce ecstacy and a variety of beautiful
forms. But the negative, harmful or demonic, her countenance is
as terrible as Kali, except she shows more weapons of destruction
than Kali (who is described later).
Saraswati: Om Eim Saraswatyei Swaha
Rough Translation: 'Om and salutations to that feminine energy
which informs all artistic and scholastic endeavor, and for which
Eim (pronounced I'm) is the seed.'
Saraswati holds a musical instrument, the vina, in one hand and
a rosary in another hand. She spans the world of mundane knowledge
and spiritual understanding. Those pursuing any artistic or educational
endeavor whatsoever will gain greatly from the practice of this
mantra
Om Namah Shivaya
It is a call upon God to eliminate our negative qualities, to
dissolve our difficulties and to destroy the obstacles to higher
spiritual life. 'Siva' is called the compassionate One. His destruction
is really a blessing. This mantra will start one out on the path
of subtle development of spiritual attainments. It is the beginning
on the path of Siddha Yoga, or the Yoga of Perfection of the Divine
Vehicle.
Om Sri Rama Jaya Rama, Jaya, Jaya Rama
Rough Translation: 'Om and Victory to Rama (the self within),
victory, victory to Rama.' Rama was an Avatar who came several
thousand years ago. His sole purpose was to show how a person
should live a Divine Life while living in a human body. . This
mantra will 'take one across' the ocean of rebirth. In a more
immediate way, it is most powerful in reducing negative karmic
effects no matter in which life they might have occurred. It is
used to evoke the power that leads to victory for the spiritual
Self that it may obtain the realization of the Divine within.
It has got a powerful healing effect also.
Om Guru Brahma, Guru Vishnu, Guru Devo Maheshwara
Guru Sakshat Para Brahma, Tasmayee Shree Guruve Namah.
Prostration to that Sat-Guru, who is himself the Gods, Brahma,
Vishnu, Maheshwara, and who is verily the Supreme Absolute Himself.
Maha Mantra
Hare Rama Hare Rama, Rama Rama Hare Hare,
Hare Krishna Hare Krishna, Krushna Krishna Hare Hare.
These 16 names destroy, doubtless, the evil effects of Kali (yuga).
They remove the veil of ignorance of the jiva surrouded by 16
kalas (rays). Then like the sun, which shines in full effulgence
after the clouds are dispersed, Para Brahma alone shines in full
splendour.
Mantra/Prayer to Sun
In the words of Yajurveda, " O Sun! O Sun of Suns! Thou
art all energy, give me energy; Thou art all strength, give me
strength; Thou art all powerful, give me power."
He, who repeats before sunrise, will possess wonderful health,
vigour and vitality. He will be free from every kind of disease
of the eye. He will have wonderful eyesight.
Adi Granth Mul Mantra
He is the sole Supreme Being (Ik Omkar);of eternal manifestation;
Creator;
Immanent Reality; without fear; without rancour; Timeless form,
Unincarnated Self-Existent; Realised by the grace of the Holy
Preceptor.

Dehi Mae Tanayam Krishna Twaham Sharanam Gatah. Om.
Oson of Devaki! O Govinda! O Vasudeva! O Lord of the universe!
O Krishna! Give me a son; I have taken refuge in Thee.
Repeat this Mantra at least one-lakh times, consult a pandit,
perform havan, feed Brahimins & poor, and distribute clothes.

Rama (Healing Mantra-Experience)
Om Apadamapa Hataram Dataram Sarva Sampadam
Loka Bhi Ramam Sri Rama Bhuyo Bhuyo Namamyaham
This is a long mantra to put in a chapter for those just starting
off, but is placed here because it is the most powerful healing
mantra I have ever encountered. The very rough translation is,
'Om, Oh most compassionate Rama please send your healing energy
right here to the earth, to the earth (twice for emphasis.)'
I have seen this mantra completely cure one person from a schizophrenic
break who was in a locked ward. The psychiatrist said he would
never lead a life on the outside again. In the middle of a 40-day
sadhana done in his behalf, he was living in a 'halfway house'
for those on the road to recovery. After 40 days of a spiritual
discipline done on his behalf, he was on his own. He has since
graduated from Art School, which he attended on scholarship, and
is working as an artist.
Another individual, who was on medication, took off spurning his
pills and disappeared for a time. After a 40-day sadhana done
on his behalf, he had stabilized his life and was back on his
medication without complaint.
A woman I know was in constant pain for four years. She undertook
this discipline and after just a few weeks was in less pain than
at any time she could remember over the past several years. She
is still doing the mantra and expects to be pain free relatively
soon.
Although the mantra is long, it is simple to say phonetically.
If you can, say it 108 times in a sitting. If you are just starting
out, this may initially take up to one hour. After you are comfortable
with the mantra, it will only take you 30 minutes.

Each mantra has a beeja or seed. This is the essence of mantra
and it gives the mantra its special power or energy, which is
hidden in the mantra as a seed. Every Devata has his or her own
Beeja-Akshara. The Beeja-Mantras have a significant inner meaning
and often do not convey any meaning on their face. Their meaning
